Alex Collatz of Stockdale hit it big on her third and final throw of the prelim when she sailed the platter out 177-0 to set a national sophomore record, breaking the old mark of 174-0 set by Briona Reynolds of Grand Forks Red River in North Dakota in 1999. Annastasia Jelmini of Shafter, who earlier this year set the national high school record at 190-3, had one final throw but could muster “only” 175-4. Lindsay Machado of Shingle Springs El Dorado had the third best throw at 143-2 to move her into fourth on the yearly State list. It took 131-7 to make the final.
